Questions About Electrical Maintenance
Please be careful when performing any electrical repairs or installation. Electricity is powerful and can be very dangerous. This material is only for informational purposes and is not instructional. Please consult a professional as appropriate.

ToolboxCan a ceiling fan be hung where a light is located?

Yes, but first the electrical box must be properly braced and rated for the weight and torque of the paddle fan being installed.

Can fluorescent lights be dimmed?

Fluorescent lights require a special dimmer, as well as special fixtures. A typical incandescent dimmer can not be placed on an existing fluorescent.

Can my coffee pot and toaster oven be plugged into the same kitchen counter outlet?

Yes. Though, if the two loads exceed 20 Amps, the breaker will sense overload, do its job, and trip off. Under this condition, one of the appliances must be plugged into a different kitchen outlet, on a different circuit, in order to balance the load.
