July Specials - Wines Of France!
2009 Boyer Martenot
Just about every wine review we find includes Boyer Martenot in their list of top Meursault producers! Many have them as number one! Last year Mills was lucky enough to get four assorted cases of Boyer Martenot's Burgundies.
This year we have been allotted seven cases, and we believe we are the only Maryland account to get any at all! As part of our French Sale we are pre-selling these wines today! We would keep them on sale longer but we don't expect them to last more than a few minutes.

2006 (Not 2005) Chalk Hill Cabernet Sauvignon
Usual Maryland Retail Price $59.99, Mills' Special Price $29.99
This is one of our best specials EVER! Chalk Hill is amongst California's elite estates. The 2005 vintage is simply amazing, and our price is simply not to be believed!
Updated Information:
Winemaker's notes: A Bordeaux blend of 76% Cabernet Sauvignon: 76%, 12% Merlot, 7.5% Malbec, 3% Carmenere and 1.5% Petit Verdot.
Like the previous year, 2006 was a long, cool growing season with a late harvest in our Estate Cabernet Sauvignon vineyards. As in 2005 these shallow soiled hillside vineyards were still quite able to produce a small crop of very ripe grapes.
The harvest began in the final week of October, but with warmer conditions proceeded at a brisk pace, finishing at the end of the first week of November; a week earlier than in 2005. The wine is a bit more lush, ripe, and fruit forward than its predecessor as a result, and yet still has substantial structure.
Critical Acclaim:
"The 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon reveals slightly sweeter black fruits, more body and length, and a richer, fuller style. Finesse allied with substance as well as authoritative varietal flavor suggest it should keep for 15+ years. "

Kacher Selections And Tasting!
Saturday, July 16 1-5 pm
We will be opening selections of the below Wines!
In a bizarre kind of way our Wine manager has 'known" Bobby Kacher for 61 years! Peter says, "It's karma." Bobby says it's his bad luck. Peter and Bobby were both born in Chicago, Illinois on February 17, 1950 within 15 minutes of each other in hospitals that are essentially 10 minutes apart. Professionally, they started working together, and throwing bricks at each other in 1977, and now 34 years later they still do business with each other!
For our July French promotion we asked Bobby to bring us some inexpensive wines from the South of France! The wines selected from Corbieres and The Costieres de Nimes offer both exceptional quality and great value. These are perfect wines for Summer drinking. Grab a bunch!
GRANGES DES ROUQUETTE, Costiers de Nimes White 2009
This bottling is a blend of Marsanne (55%), with the balance in Viognier. The two varietals are picked separately and the grape clusters are pressed whole, very slowly, to extract maximum flavors. After a short period of skin contact, two-thirds of the wine is fermented in stainless steel, with the remaining third vinified in new, one and two year-old barrels. The wine is then aged on its lees for three to four months. Bottling in early Spring ensures impeccable freshness. Aromas of white peach and citrus rind melt into the round, tropical palate that finishes on a bright mineral note.
Bottle One Price $11.99, Second Bottle Costs $5.99
GRANGES DES ROUQUETTE, Costiers de Nimes Red 2008
Located in the tiny commune of Fournès, on the right bank of the Rhône River, is the estate of Thierry & Véronique Boudinaud, Domaine Grange des Rouquette. The Boudinaud family has been winegrowers and winemakers in the western Rhône Valley for five generations. The cepage for the delicious 2008 Grange des Rouquette red wine is 50% Syrah, 40% Grenache, and 10% Mouvedre. This wine is produced from grapes grown on the domaine's best terroir, which is along an ancient river bed covered by stones.
Bottle One Price $11.99, Second Bottle Costs $5.99
SAINT EUGENIE, Corbieres Rouge 2008
This wine is made entirely from free-run juice. It is a blend of about 40% old vine Carignan (65+ years old) with the rest being a blend of Grenache and Syrah (25-46 year old vines). The wine is vinified for 9 month in barrels varietal by varietal. We then blend the wine and place it in small cask for up to 15 months before bottling. The result is a marvelously complex and clean wine that rivals anything produced in the appellation. The red fruits burst from the glass with mild hints of toast and spice that continue through the impeccably balanced finish.
Bottle One Price $11.99, Second Bottle Costs $5.99
SAINT EUGENIE, "Les Clos" 2009
This wine displays an attractive raspberry red color with hints of garnet. Its nose is lively and complex, with notes of red and black fruits. Refined oak fragrance with hints of incense, spices (nutmeg, clove, ginger), anise, autumn woods and tobacco. It is very soft on the palate, with a fresh, tangy acidity. Le Clos shows a wonderful balance. It is well-structured yet elegant, with fine tannins. It will perfectly accompany a duck terrine laced with olives, a roast rack of lamb, barbecued beef or pork chops with fines herbes, as well as pheasant with wild mushrooms or boeuf bourguignon.
Bottle One Price $10.99, Second Bottle Costs $5.50
DOMAINE GOURNIER Sauvignon Blanc 2009
Hand-harvested, this wine's expressive aromas come from eight hours of skin contact before fermentation in stainless steel. The result is an intensely flavored and rich Sauvignon Blanc, with bright tropical fruits in the nose and a well-balanced palate.
Bottle One Price $10.99, Second Bottle Costs $5.50
GRAND CASSAGNE, Costieres de Nimes 2009
The 2009 red, a blend of 47% Grenache and equal parts Carignan and Syrah, all fermented and aged in tank, is a sleeper selection. Deep ruby/purple-tinged with lots of cassis, raspberry, licorice, and forest floor, the wine exhibits excellent ripeness, a delicious, silky mid-palate, and a good finish. This is a very good bargain and worth drinking over the next two years.
Bottle One Price $10.99 Second Bottle Costs $5.50

Clos des Tournons Vineyard
Clos des Tournons Bourgogne Chardonnay 2010 Bourgogne Pinot Noir 2007
Shelf Price $17.99, Second Bottle Price $8.99
For almost twenty years Mills has been following the Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from the Tripoz Family. They have acquired many expensive properties since then, but their estate bottled Red and White Burgundy has always been a favorite.
Domaine Daniel Pollier Macon-Fuisse 2009
Shelf Price $14.99, Second Bottle Price $7.50
Mills has featured the Daniel Pollier estate for many years. Their triumvirate of Pouilly Fuisse, St. Veran and Macon Villages have become our largest selling Maconaise wines. US Importer Alain Blanchon brought us samples of their newest estate: Macon-Fuisse, and the wine was tremendous, and the price is even better!
Domaine A. Chopin Bourgogne Pinot Noir 2009
Shelf Price $18.99, Second Bottle Price $8.99
Mills first started with the Chopin Bourgogne last year (his 2007 Vintage). Chopin is famous for his very high quality Nuits St Georges. His Bourgogne is over-run and young vines from his Nuits St. Georges vineyards. We thought his 2007 was a great buy for "good" wine! As the 2009 Red Burgs are stupendous we now think this is a great buy for "great" wine!
Domaine Chassagne Beaujolais Villages 2009
Shelf Price $12.99, Second Bottle Price $6.50
Domaine Chassagne Beaujolais Villages was a staple at MILLS until 2007 then it disappeared. We were delighted to see that Alain Blanchon picked up this fine estate. This is REAL Beaujolais. It DOES NOT taste like Bubble Gum or Cotton candy! We can't think of a better red wine for the Summer Months!
Domaine des Hautes Ouches Loire Sauvignon Blanc 2009
Shelf Price $14.99, Second Bottle Price $7.50
It may be named ouch, but this one doesn't hurt at all! Joel and Jean-Louis Lhumeau own vineyards in Sancerre, Pouilly Fume and other important Loire sites. This is a blend of over-run from all their vineyards. Mills started with the 2006 vintage and we have sold out quickly every year. If you like the bright fruit of Sauvignon blanc without the high acidity this is a real summertime winner!
Maryland Wine Tasting
Sunday, July 10th 1-5pm
The Mills' Maryland Wine Tasting Series continues on Sunday, July 10th, 1-5 pm with a tasting of delicious, dry wines from Bordeleau Vineyards & Winery, located on the Eastern Shore south of Salisbury. Tom Shelton, owner and winemaker of Bordeleau (which means" Water's Edge" in French), makes his wines in the French wine making style. His vineyard's soil and climate are similar to those found in the Bordeaux region of France. Heplanted his vines in 1998.
Corinna from Bordeleau will be at Mills pouring a great selection of summer white wines from the winery: the Pinot Grigio 2010, Viognier 2009, Unoaked Chardonnay 2008, and the Barrel Fermented Chardonnay 2008. She will also pour Bordeleau's lovely Chambourcin red wine, which is made from the French hybrid Chambourcin grape that was developed in the early 1900s in the Loire Valley of France. Bordeleau's Chambourcin is a super, dryred wine for summertime and the favorite Chambourcin of Mills' staff. Last, we also plan to pour Bordeleau's Late Harvest Vidal Blanc 2006 dessert wine!
Come join us on Sunday afternoon and learn why we think Bordeleau makes some of the best wines in Maryland!
Berry Brothers' Rum
In what should be a landmark release for serious rum chasers, Berry Bros & Rudd is releasing their own private bottling line of exclusive selections from all over the rum-producing world. Every single selection is of the highest quality and, having tasted them, I'm going to find it very difficult to limit myself to one or two bottles. They are best appreciated as a set and, when tasted next to one another, make for one amazing education on sugar cane spirits. The Fijian is the most tropical of the series - honey and sugarcane dance with coconut and tropical fruit on the nose.
This would make the best pina colada or mai tai ever.
